Weekends Are Ruining Your Progress

Picture this: You’re walking across a bridge, it’s windy, there’s cars rushing past you. Damnit! You accidentally dropped $50 out of your wallet and watched it blow off into the distance, never to be seen again…Do you...

Picture this:

You’re walking across a bridge, it’s windy, there’s cars rushing past you.

Damnit! You accidentally dropped $50 out of your wallet and watched it blow off into the distance, never to be seen again…

Do you:

Option A:

Go to an ATM and withdraw all of the remaining cash in your bank account and throw it off the bridge?

Or…

Option B:

Just get on with your day.

Of course you’re not throwing all your money off a bridge.

That would be crazy, right?

Because then you’d have to work to build that balance back up.

So…

Why do you let going over your macros once become an excuse for an all-out, weekend-long, booze-filled, calorific, binge-fest?

After all… You’re just going to have to work to get that deficit back later, right?

This “All Or Nothing” mindset is incredibly common.

And it’s holding you back.

Sometimes it can help - in business, social life and dating, taking risks can often pay big rewards.

But it doesn’t work for fitness.

You can’t “rush” your health.

I know, it’s so easy…

On a Friday night to get talked into drinks after work.

Drinks turn into food.

Food turns into more drinks.

You wake up late on a Saturday and think:

“You know what? I screwed up. I’ll start again on Monday.”

Then you use that as an excuse to go crazy all weekend, potentially undoing days or even weeks worth of progress.

(Side note: There are ways you can set up your diet to create more room for drinks and calorie-dense foods on the weekend - we call it Macro Cycling. And we’ve got a guide to teach you exactly how to do this.)

Consider this analogy:

What happens when you get a flat tyre on the open road?

Are you going to just put the spare on or call the mobile mechanic…

Or are you going to take a knife and slash every other tyre, then smash the windscreen, too and think:

“F*ck it, this one’s not 100% perfect so I’ll just get a new car”...

It’s kind of the same as “f*ck it, today wasn’t perfect, so I’ll just start again on Monday”... with your diet, right?

In order to get out of this All Or Nothing mindset where the smallest setback leads to a monumental calorie filled step away from your fat loss goals…

You need to understand this:

Your health and fitness is not a zero-sum game.

This isn’t chess or soccer or basketball. There’s no winners and you’re not a loser just because you messed up one night.

You’re literally one decision away from getting back on track.

Went over your macros? Okay.

Had more drinks than you intended to? Congratulations - you’re human. That’s normal.

What happens on one day doesn’t matter in comparison to what happens on the other 364 days of the year.

You’re always in control of what you do next.

Think of your calories like a budget:

Just like your bank account, and you’ll start to move away from this self-sabotaging loop.

You can choose to stop throwing money after a really big purchase.

You can choose to wake up and drink plenty of water, go for a walk, hit the gym and eat nutritious food the day after an overshoot.

There’s no winners, you’re not a loser. It’s just a mathematical equation that never ends and you can always choose to flip the switch back in your favour.

You got this.
